FLW BFL Tournament at Potomac River-41st place

May 9, 2009-Warm w/ Moderate Winds
Air Temp: 68-85    Water Temp: 66-74
Fished Tournament as Co-Angler, lots of storms prior to tour. so water high and muddy
w/ lots of floating debris.  Started off day slow, boater hooked a fish after about 30 mins.
and the fish was a keeper. I started day fishing a spinnerbait but too much floating debris
caused lure not to work correctly. Switched to plastic and started dragging the bottom.
Caught two nice keepers within the first 1 1/2 hrs. and caught fish periodically the rest of day.
My boater caught a number of fish also dragging plastics. I caught 20 fish and ended up w/
3 keepers for 7.10-lots of small fish today although I did have a nice 4-5 lb. fish on that threw
hook and two other nice fish that pulled drag that we never saw. If I would have caught the
fish that I had on I'm sure I would have finished in the top ten and cashed a nice check.
Ifs and buts don't count but nice to know I had a chance. Boater ended up w/ a little over
10 lbs. but did not finish in the money. Good Fishing!

3rd Place Lunga Res. Tournament-Small Boat

May 2. 2009    Warm & Sunny
Air Temp:61-73     Water Temp:63-67
Fished Tournament w/ sub. Scott Newton. Started tournament in area I
did well in last year, w/ no success. Started covering area looking for fish
and finally found an area where we caught some keepers w/ plastics.
Had 3 fish in livewell w/  2 hrs. to go. Moved to an area where I had lost a
nice fish in last years tournament. Scott made a cast into the pocket and
set the hook, fought the fish for a min. and it broke him off. Started fishing
back towards ramp and found an area where no one had fished  earlier.
I threw into a pocket and had a nice strike but I missed the fish. Scott
followed up w/ a worm and we landed the fish shortly after-2 lber. Another
50 ft. down the bank I was throwing a spinnerbait on a shallow point and
hung a nice fish. The fish battled pretty hard and finally Scot was able to net it.
The fish was a little over 3 lbs. and we ended up w/ 8.10 lbs. for tournament
and finished in third place. Good Fishing!

Cousins and I Try the River

April 23, 2009   Windy & Warm
Air Temp:64-72     Water Temp:62-66
Fished near launch and was able to catch a few fish but decided
to look for some big fish. Mainly fishing spinnerbaits, crankbaits
and plastics. Tried up near Quantico, Arkendale Flats & Bennetts
Pt. w/ little success. Headed back to ramp and decided to fish bridge
area. Cousin Cale started catching some nice keepers w/ crankbait
and I caught a nice keeper also. Cousin "B" caught a few nice fish and we
decided ti call it a day! Good Fishing!

1/2 Day Trip on Potomac River

April 21, 2009 Warm & Cloudy
Air Temp: 68-73     Water Temp:61-66
Started out in Accoceck Creek w/ little success. Moved to Marlboro Pt.
area fishing spinnerbaits, swimbaits and shallow crnkbts. I hit on a few fish
but no size to fish. Had several large fish come up on swimbaits but they
wouldn't take it.  My client for day caught several 15" fish on spinnerbaits.
The wind started to get up so we called it a day. In all we caught 20 fish
and my client was happy he had learned some new areas in River.
Good Fishing!

Guided 1/2 Day Trip on Lake Anna

April 18, 2009   Warm & Sunny
Air Temp:65-72   Water Temp: 59-63
Picked clients up at Marina at 8:30 and headed to areas I had "scouted"
earlier. My clients were a 77 yr. old retired Col. & pastor and his son who
had just graduated w/ his masters from Univ. of Minn. Started day fishing
a cove I had found w/ some pre-spawn and spawning fish. I let the son
drive the trolling motor while I set his dad up. The son wanted to fish artificial
and his dad wanted to fish live minnows. I should not have let the son drive
the boat because the boat get up on top of the fish. The fish spooked out of
there beds and we moved to different area. At second area we rebaited and
I headed down bank close enough to cast to bank. After going down bank
after 5 mins. the father hooked a nice Bass(3.5 lbs.) on the large minnow
Shortly after that about 50 feet down the bank "Dad" caught another Bass
(2.12 lbs.). I decided to try a different area after we finished fishing this area.
Fished new area for about 15 mins. when "Dad" caught another Bass(1.34 lbs.)
Son was feeling bad about getting skunked so we tried new area for some Crappie.
Pulled in cove and started fishing to beaver hut I had targeted. Once on beaver hut
the son caught several small Bluegill. It seemed Crappie might be deeper so I moved
boat out deeper on hut. Within 5 mins. the son had caught a couple of nice Crappie.
It was time to head in so, we packed up and headed back. Not too bad a day for 5
hr. trip. I was honored to be in the boat w/ a retired Col. who had served in Korea
and Vietnam. Our military people don't get the credit and respect they deserve for
what they do to protect our country. Good fishing!

Club Aquia Tournament

April 17, 2009   Cool and Sunny
Air Temp:53-62       Water Temp:55-60
Not a real good day, started out near launch but bass boat was already
on spot I wanted to go to. Another club boat was racing to area I wanted
to try but I was able to get there first. The other boat still fished close to
me so I decided to try different area. Fished most of day w/o much success.
All we could catch was small fish until I finally caught a nice fish on a crnkbt.
(2.22 lbs.) My partner Don and I fished hard but there wasn't much grass in
creek yet and it made it tough. I landed another fish on a rattle bait and it was
right at 15 " inches.  At weigh-in this fish was just shy of 15". Ended up w/  the
one fish at 2.22 lbs. and in 23th place for tournament. It really hurt that I was
not able to practice.  Dropped quite a bit in standings to 20th place, lucky it's
early in season. Good fishing!

Lake Anna-Christopher Run Club Tournament

April 4, 2009      Cool & VERY WINDY
Air Temp:48-62    Water Temp:52-55
Started off morning at spot where I landed a 3.71lb. Bass in practice but
water had come about a foot  and the water temp; had dropped. We decided
to move to a different area where an old mill pond connected to the lake. We
fished the area w/ moving baits and had no bites so, we fished back through
area w/ plastics and I landed a 2lber. Continued to fish area w/ a couple of
other bites but no fish in the boat. Several other boats entered the area and
we decided to leave. The wind was so bad on the "main" lake it was too hard to
fish deeper structure. So we decided to try a couple of coves and creeks. Fished
hard the rest of the day and in the last hr. my partner Don caught a nice Bass over
2lbs. Everyone had a tough day w/ conditions what they were. We ended up w/
4.04lbs. and in 5th place for day. The best weight for the day was a little over 6lbs.
Sunday the weather was much better and the fishing. The remainder of the club
fished Sunday and my Cousin Cale and his partner Phil ended up finishing in 2nd
place w/ 7.62 lbs., the winning weight was a little over 10lbs. We ended up in 9th
place for tour. and in 10th for overall pts. for yr., so far. Hope next tour. on Potomac
the weather will be better. Good Fishing!

Prefishing for Lake Anna Tournmnt.

March 27, 2009-Cool & Cloudy w/ Strong Gusts
Air temp:52-58    Water Temp: 49-53.5
Caught a good fish(3.71 lbs.) after fishing about 35 Mins. and
fished some new areas looking for warmer water. Saw some
good Crappie being caught but not many Bass. I fished hard for
another 3 more hrs. and landed 2 more fish(2 1/2 & 1 lbs.) The
bite will be tough if water temps. don't begin to climb. Next week
looks like good weather and it's a full moon soon. Good Fishing!

"The Pond" w/ Tournament Partner Don Mullins

March 28, 2009-Cool & Very Cloudy
Air Temp:58-62   Water Temp:Bank Fishing
Pulled up to pond and saw bait breaking all over. My friend caught 8
straight fish- 1 on spinnerbait and rest on large minnows-ranging from
8" to 2 1/2 lbs. and caught fish for 2 hrs . on and off. End up catching
20 fish between friend and I. My friend caught 3 Bowfin all around 2/12-
4 lbs. Another friend was fishing creek and was catching some nice
Crappie w/ small minnows. Things are beginning to pickup, even saw
some nice schools of  Herring trying to get up creek into pond and
some did! Good Fishing!

1st tournament of season w/ new partner Don Mullins

March 21, 2009-Very Cold and Sunny w/ strong gusts
Air Temp:29-56  Water Temp:48-53
VERY COLD,  first 2 hrs. of tour. froze to death. Constantly  beating ice out of rod guides and
backlashing due to freeze up. After 2hrs. finally began to warmup and be able to fish effectively.
Pretty slow all day ended up getting a 3.37 lb., and 2 smaller fish for total of 4.76lbs. and 14th place.
Cold weather threw me off but I'll be better prepared for next tour. Small pond I fish is still hot. I saw
a guy catch a 27" 8 1/2 lb. Bass. and Crappie are starting to run in creek. Hot days to come soon hopefully.
Good Fishing!
